On Jan. 15, girls polo beat Palos Verdes High School with a final score of 12-7. The PV players were familiar opponents, as many of the players from both teams know each other through club teams. Using prior knowledge of the players’ strengths to their advantage, the girls focused on defense to combat the offensive force of PV’s players.

“We know all the girls on that team because we’ve played on club with them, so we already knew going into the game which girls to play harder on,” junior Hannah Rome said.

The game was the girls’ second win against PV this season. Though PV is one of the weaker teams that the girls face in Bay League, they still put up a fight.

“They were pretty aggressive. I got caught in a chokehold, but I pushed through it and made a shot,” junior Vanda Mate said.

With only two games left, the team’s season is nearly over. The team’s record is currently 3-1, having defeated both Palos Verdes teams.

Their one loss was to rival school Mira Costa last Wednesday, Jan. 9, with a final score of 3-6.

“Our top player Kennedy East was sick and we were missing all our shots,” Rome said.

Coming up on Jan. 23, next Wednesday, the girls go up against Peninsula, a team they previously defeated 11-1. Following this, the team will face Mira Costa again on Tuesday, Jan. 29, their final match of the Bay League season.
